The story of Way Back Love Kdrama is about first love, supernatural elements, second chances and limited time. The series tells the story of two people who once meant the world to each other, but got separated due to a tragic accident.
Released on April 3, 2025, here is a breakdown of the story of Way Back Love Kdrama.
The Episode 1 of this Kdrama starts with Jeong Hee-wan (played by Kim Min-ha), a woman who is living her life in an emotional isolation. She’s only 24, but she carries the weight of the world. It appears like life has stopped moving forward for her, and viewers can quickly sense that something or someone is missing from her world.

That missing someone is Kim Ram-woo (played by Gong Myung). Who is Kim Ram-woo you ask?
He is Hee-wan’s first love from high school. He is someone she followed in her school days until she fell in love. But unfortunately her happiness couldn’t last longer as Ram woo tragically died in an accident.
A grim reaper, Ram-woo returns

Six years later, the boy Hee-wan once loved (or I should say, still loves), has returned knocking on her door. But there is a supernatural twist here. He has not returned as the boy next door or a long-lost love, but as a grim reaper.
His appearance isn’t dramatic. It’s quiet, almost gentle, but it shakes Hee-wan’s entire world. While she tries to accept the reality that the boy once she loved is standing in front of her, she gets to know that she has just one week left to live. And to “pass peacefully,” all she has to do is call his name three times.
What follows next isn’t a desperate attempt to escape death — it’s something much deeper. Ram-woo asks Hee-wan to make a bucket list of things she wants to do before she dies. While in the beginning she hesitates, but soon accepts the idea. And that is where the real story begins. As she tries to fulfils her bucket list, the story takes us on a tearful journey of unfinished love and to the beginning of end.
The drama doesn’t rush anything, it takes time to move forward as it shows small but meaningful moments like a shared memory, a simple walk, a conversation filled with unspoken emotions and a fun school time of 2 persons filled with joy of first love.
The flashbacks to their school days is not only funny to watch but also gives us a glimpse at the beginning of their love, the sweetness of their youth. It makes their reunion in the present feel even more powerful.

Ram-woo may be a grim reaper, but his presence feels comforting. It appears like if he is there to guide Hee-wan, through this unique journey towards death.
Both Kim Min-ha and Gong Myung have beautifully portrayed their characters. Their chemistry feels natural, their pain and love real.
Although the drama is still airing, but after watching first few episodes, we can accept that Way Back Love Kdrama is going to be a fun and worthy Kdrama to watch. The story feels different and takes us through different curves of life. The happy moments, the sadness, the guilt, and many different emotions.
