What happens when a shy math genius secretly lives a double life as a romance manga artist?

That is the story of “The Comic Bang,” a new Chinese drama which premiered on May 22 on iQIYI. This campus love story is about a boy who is trying to achieve his unusual dream.

The Comic Bang story

The story revolves around Lu YeQi, played by Wang Jing Xuan. He is a second-year university student majoring in mathematics. On the surface, he’s quiet, focused, and a little mysterious. But behind the scenes? He’s a full-blown professional shōjo manga artist—yep, the kind who writes swoon-worthy love stories while struggling to understand love himself.

Originally dreaming of becoming a shōnen (action) manga creator, he ends up in the world of shōjo by a twist of fate… and now he’s got to learn how to draw love while learning to feel it.

Meet Zuo Qian Dai: The Girl Who Turns His Pages

Starring the beloved Shen Yue—yes, the Shen Yue from famous cdramas like “A Love So Beautiful” and “Meteor Garden”—Zuo Qian Dai stumbles into Lu Ye Qi’s world and unexpectedly joins his manga studio. What begins as an odd pairing turns into a dynamic collaboration full of laughs, frustrations, heartfelt moments, and just maybe… romance.

We’ve seen Shen Yue light up the screen with her adorable charm before, especially alongside Dylan Wang in Meteor Garden and Hu Yitian in A Love So Beautiful. But in The Comic Bang, she brings something new: the spark of a girl chasing dreams in a world of ink, panels, and passion.

The series also features a solid supporting cast: Zhou Yan Chen, Jenny Zeng, Wu Yu Heng, and Zhao Yi Qin—each adding color to the youthful, vibrant story.

The story of this Chinese drama feels different than other cdramas. Hopefully we will not get disappointed as the story moves forward.
